“If We Burn” with Vincent Bevins
Coming From Left Field’s new podcast is published July 11, 2024
Warm Greetings All,
Vincent Bevins is an award-winning journalist. He reported for the Financial Times in London, then served as the Los Angeles Times' Brazil correspondent before covering Southeast Asia for the Washington Post.
His first book, “The Jakarta Method,” came out in 2020 and was named one of the year's best books by the Financial Times and NPR. The book describes the intentional mass murder of left -wing movements around the world (sponsored by the CIA and other USA players).
Today, we discuss his book, “If We Burn: The Mass Protest Decade and the Missing Revolution.” From 2010 to 2020, more people participated in protests than at any other point in human history. Vincent interviewed over 200 people from 12 countries over two years to formulate his thesis on why we haven’t seen a significant revolutionary change from these mass uprisings (Arab Spring, Gezi Park in Turkey, Ukraine’s Euromaidan, and conflicts in Brazil).
Greg describes this book as his top read over the past two years, and I agree. Even though Vincent describes himself as “just a journalist,” he is much more—a scholar, intellectual, and imaginative thinker.
