In this podcast, we discuss with Frank Schaeffer his recent blog post regarding “Duty to Warn: May I Tell You What Project 2025 Really Is?” and its origins in the theologically conservative Opus Dei and deep-pocketed conservative think tanks.

What do JD Vance, Tucker Carlson, Peter Thiel, Jenny Thompsom, and Laura Ingraham all have in common? Answer: All recently converted to the obscure Catholic cult Opus Dei.  If it seems like a plot right out of a Dan Brown novel… it is.

I have been aware of Frank Schaeffer for years and was excited when he agreed to a podcast discussion. Frank is the son of theologian and author Francis Schaeffer, who, along with other evangelicals, is responsible for the pro-life movement and the powerful religious right that emerged in the 1970s.  Frank hung out with Billy Graham, James Dobson, and Pat Robinson. Jerry Farwell lent him his private jet to fly around the country and evangelize.  He was the keynote speaker for the conservative Southern Baptist Convention, addressing over 23,000 pastors in the audience.  And then, in the mid-80s, he became disillusioned with the movement and walked away.  He became a New York Times best-selling author, filmmaker, painter, early adopting blogger, and a better person.

Frank was a delightful guest.  We had an engaging conversation, and I learned a lot from it.  We all agreed that the forces behind Trump are a more significant threat than Trump himself.
