Before each podcast, Greg and I talk about the book we will be discussing and future guests. Greg mentioned that Jeff Schuhrke’s book was one of the two best this year (including “If We Burn” by Vincent Bevins).

“Blue Collar Empire: The Untold Story of US Labor’s Global Anticommunist Crusade” is a critical examination of American labor’s role in bolstering U.S. imperialism in Latin America and elsewhere. Shurhrke documents the disturbing history of the American labor movement’s decades of close involvement in anticommunist crusades with the CIA, which has been at the heart of our foreign policy for the last 75 years.

Jeff Schuhrke is a labor historian, journalist, union activist, and assistant professor at the Harry Van Arsdale Jr. School of Labor Studies, SUNY Empire State University in New York City. Jeff is a newly minted Ph.D., and this is his first book…a real doozy that sometimes reads like a Joe Rogan conspiracy theory. This book is an invaluable contribution to the history of our labor movement and deep-state foreign policy. What fun.
